2nd graders at Museum School 25 are the last grade level taking part in our intensive @yonkerspublicschools partnership this year. They are museum veterans, having been to the Museum as 1st graders. They were working on strengthening their storytelling techniques looking at myths and constellations.
During the classroom pre-visit lessons and the visit to the Planetarium, students analyzed the structure of these stories—who is the main character, hero, or heroine? Where is the setting? What happens in the beginning, the middle, and the end? Looking at constellations, and how you connect the dots (stars) to form an image, students used actual maps of the night sky to start thinking about the "bones" of their character as well as story brainstorming original narratives. Here, they put their constellations on paper with glow-in-the-dark paint.
Stay tuned for how these 2nd graders begin work on fleshing out these characters through illustration and drawing workshops with Artist-in-Residence Ebony Bolt. #museumeducation #steam #arteducation #artsmatter #mythology #museumschoolmonday #constellation #education #myth #storytelling
