Last Friday was such a vibe. February 9th in Bridgeport, Connecticut marked the first Mujer Movement event. It is an event organized by women and for women artists to celebrate and showcase the diverse talents that exist in this state. I was blessed to have been a part of this show through my photography and graphic works.
Mica Zeni, an Argentinian photographer and the creator of the Mujer Movement, is a friend who I had met through Instagram and invited me to be a part of the show. Although not originally from Connecticut, Mica felt inspired to create this event because she saw how much talent exists in here, and like the rest of us, was aware that there isn't much in terms of support, nor events that celebrates these artists. Having an event like this meant so much not just in terms of meeting other inspiring female artists, nor showcasing my own personal work, but more so the event itself and what it life it gave Connecticut if only for a night. I don't think that I only speak for myself when I say that this event is something that I have been craving here my entire life, a space, a gathering, a moment of time where like-minded creatives get together and celebrate their hard work and have some fun. It gives a pulse to Connecticut, it strengthened the connections within the artistic community, and hopefully will foster more pride in being a Connecticut resident as we build our culture.
Some of the events that took place were musical performances; rap, DJ sets, music for the soul, live body-painting, live portraiture. Women were selling vintage cloths, handmade jewelry with energy balancing crystals, their were paintings, photographs, and so much other inspiring works. Even the crowd themselves who attended were filled with creature passion in their clothing. Everyone was feeling good and really just happy to be there whether they were vending or attending.
Another one of the reasons that this was such a successful event holistically is that all profits made from this night are going towards an organization that helps benefit woman. #nyc #canonphotography #igvi #canon7d #videogram #videooftheday #videography #canon #bestvideooftheday #photography #igvideo #votd #videographer #instavid #vid #instavideo #model #50mm #instagramvideo #video
