Continuing on our topic of “What is your greatest struggle when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle”, now for the MANY of you who said NUTRITION is where you fall off the wagon. Particularly with SELF CONTROL.
That was definitely me when I first started looking at my nutrition years ago, but here are a few things that helped tremendously:
▪️Replace your cravings with a healthier version that BENEFITS your body. Crave chocolate? Go for a chocolate banana smoothie or protein shake. Crave Chinese food? Find healthy recipes online and swap ingredients as needed.
▪️Can’t stop eating after having multiple servings of your favorite indulgence? DON’T KEEP JUNK IN YOUR HOUSE. Go have 1-serving treats when you need them, but don’t bring home a multi-serving bag of chips, or whole tub of ice cream. Anything that you can’t control yourself with, don’t keep around. Unless it’s watermelon or broccoli or something 😂.
▪️Self talk. When you decide “ok I’m going to the store to buy ______ (junk food of choice)” as you are going to the car, or driving, talk to yourself about it. “Will this make me feel better?” “Is this good for me” “Will it give me healthy energy” “Will it just leave me craving more junk or is it stalling my progress in my health” usually you can talk yourself out of it! The key here is not guilt, but awareness.
🍉These all take time. At first, you will still miss the junk, but after a while, fruit WILL be enough to fulfill your sweet tooth, you WILL crave veggie-loaded meals, and you won’t want to fill your body with things that harm it instead of helping it.
