@onegreenplanet ・・・ Fantastic news for whales and dolphins! The Vancouver Aquarium will NO LONGER keep whales, dolphins, and porpoises captive after years of pressure from animal rights activists and the city’s park board. With suspicious deaths of their marine residents and questionable activities leaving animal lovers in outrage (such as a program where you can swim with captive belugas), this important step by the Vancouver Aquarium couldn’t come soon enough. In 2015, Dr. Ingrid Visser, Founder of and Principal Scientist for the Orca Research Trust, observed a young whale at the Vancouver Aquarium, known as Chester, with wounds attributed to self-mutilation. On top of that, the death of Qila, the first beluga born into captivity and the death of her mother, Aurora left many with raised eyebrows and the aquarium’s visitor numbers declined. “I think it’s clear that keeping animals in captivity has lost public support and we’re hopeful that trend continues and that animal captivity will eventually become a thing of the past,” said Peter Fricker of the Vancouver Humane #captivityiscruel #goodnews #swimwithdolphins #seaworld #fuckseaworld #dolphinquest #boycottseaworld #repost #seaworldkills #goodnewseveryone #sealifepark #environmentalist #environmentallyfriendly #emtythetanks #environment #captivitysucks #goodnewstoday #wildlife #emptythetanksworldwide #captivity #biodiversity

Everyone needs a nap every now and then! Boomer here is a Leopard Stingray. These guys spend a lot of time resting on the bottom of the ocean. Boomer is living up to that reputation with a nighttime snooze, along with the many cownose rays that he lives #seaworld #leopard #whipray #honeycomb #batoidea #stingray #swo #swomigos #elasmobranch #rays #stingrays #ocean #conservation #seaworldorlando #stingraylagoon #leopardstingray #education #marinelife #honeycombray

RESEARCH SATURDAY!! Today we will be looking at the CONE SNAIL! The Cone Snail is a group of marine snails found in tropical oceans and seas around the world. The cone snail teeth, known as radulae, works like a deadly poisonous harpoon! Hey GoatFish...WATCH OUT! NO! The venomous toxins targets the nervous system, paralyzing its victim and allowing the snail to get over to its meal as its own speed. 5 minutes later...finally dinner! Found under rocks and coral reefs, others hunt by burying themselves in sand. These creatures are sneaky! Larger species of cone snail have radulae large enough to pierce a wet suit. PROTECTOR, CAN A CONE SNAIL KILL A HUMAN!?! Whale Jimmy, the answer is YES! 65% of people stung die if they don't get to a hospital in time. To make matters worse, we don't currently have any medications that can neutralize the venom; in other words no antidote. YIKES!! Cone Snails are considered the most venomous animal in the WORLD! *Jimmy Faints*. GOOD NEWS: When appropriately harnessed, it can be medically useful. HOW?! Whale, one of the components, the other 99% are toxins, is effective as a pain killer. When scientists copied its structure in a lab, they found out that it is 1000 times more POWERFUL than morphine, and they think, less addictive. WHALE, THANK YOU CONE SNAIL FOR THE INTERESTING TERRIFYING FACTS! ~ Explore. Educate. Protect! ~ 😊👍📢👊💙🌊🐬🐳🐋🐠🐟 Picture Credit: @underdonecomics Source: Business Insider #conesnail #freedom #toppredator #seaworld #stopslavery #spreadawareness #instagram #dolphins #explore #seaworldsucks #poisonous #endslaverynow #fight #protectanimals #emptythetanks #whales #saturdayresearch #endabuse #orcas #captivitysucks #ocean #protect #stopcaptivity #predator #stopabuse #home #educate #protectmarinelife
