One of the icons of our nation, South Africa and who has inspired millions all over the world for her courage and tenacity. Also known as the mother of the nation. Mama Winnie Mazikizela-Mandela.
She was a anti-apartheid activist and politician. She was a member of the ANC (African National Progress) political party. She played a major role in ending Apartheid - a system that controlled human interaction between people of different races. It also restricted the quality of the education that Africans got.
This system separated people because of the colour of their skin (something nobody can control) or because of how thick their hair was. This system went against all core values of humanity. She defied the system and did not let anything stand against the mission she had. Which was to liberate her people. Nothing hindered her from that, not even the apartheid government. She was a very brave and principled woman.
She was born in Bizana to a Mpondo family. She was a social worker. She was the married to the first black president of South Africa; Nelson Mandela. Whose legacy still lives, also because of her contribution in the struggle. They had two children, Zenani Mandela-Dlamini and Zindziwa Mandela-Hlongwane. Who are ambassador of South Africa in Argentina and Denmark; respectively. She stood in his place when he was jailed for 27 years. She kept his name alive and and attracted a lot of international support. She faced great battles from the apartheid state security. But she stood tall and did what was right and just. Even though it put her life at risk. That is a heart of a mother, and maybe the reason why we call her the mother of Sout Africa. She made so many sacrifices. Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela Mandela got divorced in March 1996.

May Mama rest in piece. She made a mark in this world and has inspired many people across the world. She was beautiful inside and out. Her legacy will live on. Rest In Peace Mama Winnie. It is an Honour to have lived during your time.
