Went to a great class today working towards Peacock pose - a really tough one for me as it involves a lot of upper body strength & stability - often something women (generally speaking) tend to lack... But, it led to a really interesting chat about different perspectives- with the guys often finding upper body strength poses easier, but struggling with tightness in the shoulders, chest & backs (as men typically focus on developing muscles in their upper body). Anatomical differences come in to play too with women often having stretchier hip rotators (hello childbirth 👋🏻🤦🏻♀️) ... So, while I need to work on my chaturangas (yoga push up/ low plank) to build upper body strength & stability so that one day I can make it into Peacock - a lot of guys could get huge benefit from poses like:
Dolphin 🐬- opens the shoulders, armpits & upper back, stretches hamstrings, calves & arches (great if you lift weights, spend long hours at a computer or have sore wrists from playing sport/ carpal tunnel/playing guitar etc)
Pigeon 🐦- builds stretchy external hip rotators which can help reduce lower back pain, help you run faster, give you more power in your legs etc.
